I waited by the mailbox everyday for the dusty letters and confirmation that my fiance was okay. John, a Corporal in the Marines, left just before Christmas 1992 on a mission to Somalia. By April, I still did not know if he would be sent home in time for our wedding. My family, his family, and I continued to plan our wedding. We all kept hope in our heart, faith in our spirit and there were tears of joy in each of our eyes when he was finally sent home.
I am a Walt Disney Movie collector, and my childhood dreams of "Story Book" wedding came true. A harpist played Disney classics during the prelude, and the procession began when the song "Someday My Prince Will Come" chimmed in. Each of our moms lit the candles in the stained glass chapel we were married in to the song "Candle In The Wind", and everyone in our wedding party walked down the isle to the tune of one of my favorite Disney tunes. The soloists during our wedding sang "A Whole New World" as we lit our unity candle together.

Mr. & Mrs. Sgt. John Faith
We didn't go on an official honeymoon...I am still waiting for us to be able to do that! We will celebrate our 7th wedding anniversary this year. For the first 6 1/2 years we lived on base, wherever he was stationed. We went from California to Hawaii carrying a new baby in our arms. Our daughter was born 2 years later in Hawaii. After spending 10 years in the military, John had the option of re-enlisting. We both decided that it was important for our family to establish roots back on the mainland.
We moved back east and bought property that we plan to build a new home on. I enjoy being a stay at home mom, and my work as a Pampered Chef Consultant is a lot of fun. I enjoy cooking, and I am trying my hand at planting a garden. I love our simple life and being around family and new friends here. |
