Meet the artisan
Sheryl Suko Mrs. Gottrocks Fine Jewelry & Gifts
About the Artist
Mrs. Gottrocks is the alter-ego of a Manassas, Virginia jeweler with a
Graduate Jeweler Gemologist degree (GJG) from the Gemological Institute
of America (GIA). A sculptor and jewelry designer since 1985, she opened
Mrs. Gottrocks Fine Jewelry and Gifts in 1995 as a custom jewelry and
repair service located in Manassas, Virginia. In 1997 Mrs. Gottrocks
went national with an e-retail website http://www.gottrocks.com
featuring a large selection of online gifts, fine jewelry in gold,
silver, platinum, diamond, and colored stones, as well as
jewelry-related advice and topics.
Mrs. Gottrocks has always looked at the world with design in mind.
Interviewed by A-WeddingDay.com, she said, "When I look at a sunset, I
see not only beauty, but also a design waiting to grace the finger or
lapel of some lovely lady. In the 70's and early 80's I was merely a
jewelry addict - a lover of pins and rings in particular. But in looking
for realistically priced artistic designs in yellow gold, especially
those with colored stones, I was constantly frustrated with the lack of
imagination in fine jewelry design and especially the arrogance of
custom designers, who seemed to think that clowns, flowers, bugs and
bizarre geometric designs were all women wanted."
Mrs. Gottrock's frustration led her to work in clay to create her own
pin designs, and then to jewelers school where she could learn to
commission her designs in yellow and white gold. Once a jeweler, she
realized that to many people, buying a piece of fine jewelry and buying
a car were similar experiences - they were not always getting all the
information they needed, and the pricing seemed almost mysterious.
Wanting to eliminate the mystery and offer stable, reasonable pricing,
she established her alter ego, Mrs. Gottrocks - a woman who treats all
her customers like nieces and nephews, looking out for them and making
sure they get a fair, honest deal and all the information they need to
make wise purchases. The passion behind Mrs. Gottrocks is finding
beautiful, fairly priced designs to offer both her shop and web patrons,
designing a signature line of jewelry due out in 2001, and making
jewelry care and buying information available to the general public
http://www.gottrocks.com/chat.htm via her website.
In addition to this work, Mrs. Gottrocks has become very involved with
the women entrepreneur movement on the web, hosting the WomenBiz
discussion group http://www.egroups.com/group/womenbiz and moderating
several others, and founding and co-founding various online projects
like ENTWomen.com http://www.entwomen.com, a women's business resource
site currently in development, and WomenENT.com
http://www.womenent.com, a shopping mall site designed to assist women
entrepreneurs in co-operative advertising and marketing efforts.
