Meet the artisan Ann CookeAbout the Artist It is with great pleasure to have the opportunity to tell you a little about our August artisan of the month, Ann Cooke, a.k.a. thestorygel. Ann is blessed with many creative, artistic, crafting talents. She also has an incredible imagination and is always willing to share wonderful wedding tips and ideas with us here on A-Wedding Day. On display in her shop, you will see the beautiful cakes she makes and a gorgeous silk floral arrangement. The name of her shop is "Ann's Cauldron", but crafting is not the only thing Ann brews. Ann also writes heartwarming stories. I was first introduced to Ann, by way of a story she submitted titled "Ants". "Ant's" is the story about the first wedding cake she made, the one for her own wedding. It's an hilarous tale, that gives the reader a true taste of her wonderful sense of humor. Ann is a wizard with words, taking true stories and turning them into delightful, often whimsical, but always heartwarming tales. If I could click my heels together three times, my wish would be to go and visit Ann's home in Australia, where I am sure I would meet the real "Wizard of Oz!" Her step children call her "mum", and I am sure she earned their respect from having followed many a yellow brick roads. As evident in the stories she tells about her wedding day, Ann uses her brain, speaks from her heart and gives courage to her loved ones. In her story, "My Sister's Gift" Ann tells about her sister's illness, and the love that could not keep her sister away from attending her wedding 4 years ago to Marcus. In the story, "The Matron of Honor Who Wore Overalls", she tells how on her wedding day, her mom was whisked away to a burning fire. Her latest story "Love and Autumn" is about a couple in a nursing home. Again, a true story, that she tells with such flare. The seniors in this story, after finding love and companionship with each other, went off and eloped! I'm not quite sure why Ann spells storygel with an "e" instead of an "a", maybe it's just how you spell it as an Aussie, but I can tell you this, Ann Cooke is an "e"xceptional storyteller. As a bridal consultant she helps bridal couples and their families plan a wedding within their budget. She shows them how to look at the resources they may already have in their own back yard. And this month wrote the article about Caring for Out of Town Guests. She is currently working on putting together do-it-yourself craft kits as well. She claims that the crafts she makes can be easily accomplished, when you know what you're doing, and she's ready to teach you how. Ann was recently featured in a newspaper article about another project she is involved in. So, I am sure you will be hearing more about Ann of Ann's Cauldron. We are truly blessed to have her be a part of A-Wedding Day. written by Elaine Lombardi |
