"Include your children in your plans, but don't let them decide your future!" by Joy Prue I would just like to let everyone in on remarriages. Of course, this is only my point of view. I met my husband about 2 years prior to us dating. He was a cook at Waffle House and I was a waitress. We bacame friends but at that time had our own lives. We met up again, two years later; I was a Karaoke Hostess and he was the bartender. My boss was always trying to fix us up. We did finally start dating and then during one of my shows, he took the microphone and asked me to be his wife in front of the whole crowd. How could I say no? My children whom were teenagers at the time, despised him. They had me all to themselves for about 6 years. The one thing I learned is the harder I pushed the worse it became. I even reached a point that I felt I had to make a choice my happiness or my children's. It was the hardest decision I had to make. I thought long and hard and decided that my children would be leaving the nest soon and where would that leave me? So, I sat with my children and explained I understood they didn't like him, but I loved him. I told them they had to accept him for loving me just as I had accepted their friends. We agreed I would not make them call him dad or do alot with him. It was very stressful the first two years. I am proud to say however, that my daughter calls him dad, and even asked him to give her away when she had thought of getting married. My son whom lives with his dad in New York also has come to love him. I guess what I am saying is include your children in your plans, but don't let them decide your future. In time when they see that he or she treats you and them with respect and love, pretty soon they will return that respect and love. We are very happy and are growing closer as a family every day. Remarriage can work even if there are children involved! Our Wedding It was finally here.........The day we were to become man and wife. We all were decorating the house, setting up the chairs just right...placing the cake and food on the table....setting up the Karaoke machine , and finally it was time to get dressed. Now you can walk through the rest of our day with us......... |
